Kicking My Students Butts One Step At A Time

Part of my diet and exercise regime includes counting my steps everyday. I really felt the need to challenge myself. So when one of my fave students got a Fitbit, we started challenging each other on a weekly basis. He's in 8th grade. He's got an obscene amount of energy. And he plays multiple sports. On the first day he got over 27,000 steps. Sometimes I walk into my room and find a giant L written on my board. Sometimes when I see this student he yells "take a L".…

Dear Children, Charge Your Freaking Electronic Devices Before I Lose My Damn Mind

When I buy an electronic device why can't the charger come all assembled with it? Why, Apple, why? Why do we now have to purchase the cube separate from the cable? It's making my life a living hell. We used to have a shortage of cubes. But now we have a shortage of cables. And my kids leaving them behind everywhere we go isn't helping matters. Our house has turned into one giant charging station. We have five kindle fires, one kindle reader, two laptops, three iPhones, one Samsung Galaxy,…

My Kids Are Ruining My Entire Fitbit Experience

My kids got Fitbits for Christmas. At first I didn't like the idea because like I told them, Santa doesn't bring eating disorders. But then Santa sat me down and told me not to deprive my children because of the demons in my past. Before the kids got theirs, I was averaging 12,000 steps a day on mine. I don't mean to brag, but that's a full 2,000 steps a day more than the American Heart Association suggests. Last night the kids were trying to get even more steps so…

Three Things I Am Thankful for This Thanksgiving

I like to keep things positive. So here are a few things I'm thankful for this season. In no particular order. CrunchWrap Supreme These little gems came into my life at a time when I really needed hope. They taught me that life does go on and that everything will be okay. I have been blessed enough this year to find a recipe to make these life changing meals at home. Taco Bell, I, and my elastic waist pants, thank you. And the best part is my house now smells…

I Need These Election Commercials to End. Now.

Every morning I walk (crawl) on the treadmill for thirty minutes. It's just my time to be by myself. And I love every second of it. And by every morning, I mean the last couple of months. Who knows how long this will last. There are no calls. No texts. Just me. Alone. Watching the morning news. This used to be the most peaceful time of my day. But it has now turned into my least favorite time of day. Thanks to all of the insane election commercials. I. Can.…

Inequality: T-Shirt Division: One Woman’s Quest

It is the year 2016. And there is an issue that I just can't wrap my head around. Why in God's name can't t-shirts be massed produced in women's sizes? I have played in countless softball tournaments. And I have countless men's t-shirts to prove it. In my closet. I have done a ton (several) of race/walks. All of them earning me another men's t-shirt that will sit in a pile. Unworn. A few years ago we had a fundraiser for our son. We had t-shirts made. All men's sizes.…

I Got a Fitbit and It Is All I Will Talk About From This Point Forward

I tend to get obsessed with things. When I get excited about something I jump in with both feet. Like having kids. I had four in under four years. I couldn't get enough. I had four kids and then I was over it. No more. I'm done. Time to move on. My latest obsession is my new Fitbit. I cannot get enough of this little miracle. There is nothing it can't do. It tells me how many steps I take. It tracks my sleep. It tells me how many steps…
